The 4 “core” muscles have a very specific function. They work together to allow adequate stability of the vertebrae and joints in your lower to middle part of your back. They work together in conjunction with different muscles such as your abdominals to allow stable movement with good force distribution across all areas of the spine.
With lower back pain, we have found that these core muscles may be weak or in most cases, the brain uses too much muscle tension from other muscles which promotes the “stiff” feeling a lot of people complain about after exercise.
The main thing to remember is that a WEAK CORE is not always the issue and many things contribute to lower back pain.
