Our gluteal muscle group is an essential component of everyday movement, and can be the underlying cause of pain from the knees to the low back. This group is comprised of 3 major muscles: Gluteus Maximus (no relation to Russel Crowe from Gladiator), Gluteus Medius and Gluteus Minimus. These guys are often overlooked and if not activating properly can give you a bit of drama!

If I could only prescribe 1 exercise for good glute activation, I’d pick Monster Walks. This mainly targets Glute Med, but gets the other 2 firing to some degree also. To begin, place a band around the ankles, bend slightly at the knees and hips, and take a big stride to the side whilst keeping your toes pointing forward.
